What your Horse Farm's Website Needs
Alicia Harper

The homepage of your website is your potential customer's first glimpse into your business. It is extremely important that, that first glimpse is the right one. Let's imagine you are the owner of a top notch hunter/jumper facility in your area. Would you want your viewer's to think you were some kind of backyard breeder? I doubt it. You would want your viewers to know about your large cross country course, your grand prix jumper course and state of the art facilities. To convince your viewers of this is to use images. Images of your facilities, your courses, horses and images of people smiling. Remember to keep your images small as to not take to long to download. All this gives your viewers the impression that your stables is an inviting place to be.

Navigation

Navigation is essential to any website's success. Viewers won't be able to see all that you have to offer if you don't provide a clear and simple navigation system. The best way to do this is by creating simple links to other pages within your website. The best way to accomplish this is to create a navigation bar. The navigation bar can be placed horizontally over the top of your website or vertically on the left hand side of the page. It can actually be placed anywhere but, studies show those are the first places people look when they go to a website. You should have he same navigation bar on every page with all the same links, for consistency. The fact of the matter is that if people can't find what they are looking for then they simply go somewhere else. Your navigation bar should simple but descriptive and should you choose to use images as buttons make sure they are small to allow for quick download time.

Branding

If you are truly interested in marketing your horse farm or stables, you definitely need a logo. Your logo should be on your website, your business cards, signs and on your horse trailer. It should be everywhere. Showing your logo on your website helps with brand recognition.

Content

Last but not least content. Every website needs information. Pictures and images are great but they won't do it. It is easy to forget that your website visitors don't know anything about your business. It is extremely vital to include the simplest things such as if your stable caters to every discipline or just caters to hunter/jumpers. You must include the most basic of information. More information is better. The more information you include on your website the less emails you have to answer.
