A brief account of figurative and abstract sculpture
Reynolds

Sculpture is the branch of aesthetics representing a three dimensional human-made object. Whether a Sculpture is Figurative or Abstract, both have been of equal importance throughout history and even in the contemporary days.

Both of Figurative and Abstract Sculpture are a species of representational art. They differ only in concepts. A figurative sculpture is designated to be a man-made piece of art having a definite length, breadth, and height. What the sculptor had probably tried to express in his sculpture is very clear and easily understood by a spectator in case of a figurative sculpture.

On the contrary in case of abstract sculpture for most of the time we are not able to get into the subject matter of a particular sculpture though the notion is very clear and distinct to the sculptor himself.

Differing from Figurative, Abstract sculpture is one by the creation of which a sculptor attempts to represent the real quality of objects or human beings without giving emphasis in its external appearances. On the contrary, while dealing with figurative sculpture a sculptor relates the sculpture with external appearances.

Both of Figurative and Abstract Sculpture make worth use of shapes, lines, colours and materials like bronze, gold, silver, ivory, glass and many more. An Abstract sculpture conveys powerful feelings emanating from conscious or unconscious intellectual, emotional and contextual content.

Figurative sculpture has the unique way of expressing relationship between the artist and the viewer. The figure, whether expressing an object or human being is what belongs to the world of phenomena.
Figurative and Abstract Sculpture, both are of equal status and importance to all those who have fascinated in sculpture.
