Google Sitemap is a way of informing the search engines about all the pages you have added on your website. Sitemaps are soon becoming important files to create to meet the search engines requirements. It's very important to have a sitemap for your site. It's the way of informing Google about your website, such as which pages are most important and which ones have been updated.



Google Sitemaps allow webmasters to include additional information about each URL in the website such as change frequency, when was it last updated, importance of each Url in the website. This information helps the search engines to crawl the website more intelligently.



Sitemap generators have been popping up on the web. Some sitemap generators are easy to use while some are very complex. You need to create three separate sitemaps for your website



· Sitemap in html

· Sitemap in xml

· Sitemap in txt



If you are creating a sitemap for your website make sure you do not include folders or files you don't want the search engines to see. Similarly make sure that there is no missing file or folder that you do not want the search engine to see. It is very important to be updated with your sitemap files especially if you have deleted or added any pages in your website. Similarly you also need to be updated about any changes you made in a particular web page.



So as you can see that there is a constant need to keep your three sitemaps updated. The sitemap generators out there will help you with these things however the problem we saw was there is still much work involved in keeping these updated.



Google has come up with a new program for creating Sitemaps on every website. This new program is in the form of a python script that creates Sitemaps using the Sitemap Protocol. Google Sitemap Generator helps you create sitemaps from URL's list, web server directories or by accessing logs.

· If you are looking to install the Sitemap python script in your website make sure that your web server have Python 2.2 installed.

· You also need to be familiar with the commands that launch Pythons."

· You must also be aware of the different types of directory paths to your website.

· You need to be able to upload files in your web server.

· Finally you must have some knowledge about the encoding used for those logs and complete path to them.
