Maybe it's because the price of gold has shot through the roof, but anything metallic is superhot right now.

According to Style.com, we're looking at "The Heavy-Metal Season"--with gold (and, to a lesser extent, silver and bronze) stealing the limelight in clothes, accessories, makeup and even home furnishings. But take care: Wear too much metallic at the same time and you risk looking less like the latest It Girl and more like one of the death-by-gold body-painting victims in the James Bond movie "Goldfinger." Here's a look at what's hot:

The Midas Touch in Clothes

Models in gold minis, gold trench coats and gold tights were blindingly present on all the runways. Just to break things up, they were followed by other models wearing black dresses with intricate gold detailing. One fashion designer, Donna Karan, was so smitten with all things gold that we'll leave it to you to guess what she named her new fragrance.

Shoes and Bags

Every It Girl must have her It Bag, and one of the earliest contenders--Yves Saint Laurent's "Double" bag--got a boost when Kirsten Dunst, Uma Thurman and Jessica Simpson were all spotted toting it. Its allure: The reversible carryall switches from glitzy bronze to classic chocolate. Pair up any of the hottest new bags with gold stilettos or wedges and you're all set.

Jewelry

White pearls are out and metallic gold-toned ones are in--as are just about any kind of bold, gold necklace. "The strongest link in your wardrobe," one magazine declared.

Skin Care and Makeup
