Hidden Jewelry Designs
Linda Polansky

Jewelry has probably been around since the evolution of man to adorn one self. Earrings, bangles, chains, necklaces, rings, chokers and the list are endless. Jewelry design is as important and as exclusive as the jewel itself. Whether its diamond, gold, ruby or sapphire, it’s the design that makes it desirable and it’s the design that makes it accessible to all jewelry lovers.

Stories and research tells us that beads are thought to be the oldest known form of jewelry. In earlier times, jewelry was created for more practical uses, such as for storage of wealth and fastening clothes together. In recent times it has been used almost specifically for decoration and beautification only. Hence there were not many techniques used in the design of their jewelry. They were more of materials pieced together. Jewelry was often made for people of who were highly important just to show their status and, in many cases they took it with them to the grave.

The use of jewelry has been going on since the beginning of the most remote cultures and civilizations. The first pieces of jewelry were made from natural materials, such as bone, wood and carved stone It was there in Egypt where the dead were buried with loads of jewelry, ornaments and richest of the garments! The tradition has been continued since then. However the mood and the choices have changed drastically. Diamond is the most sought after jewelry today. However getting hold of a diamond ring or a diamond set is a big set back for your pocket! It may take months to pay the loans you had taken for that small piece of jewelry for your beloved.

The modern jewelry designs have never been better as they are today. The latest of these jewelry designs are much appreciated and sought after. The discovery of new materials, such as plastics, metal clay or PMC and the so many different coloring techniques, has brought about a huge revolution in the jewelry design business. Many other researches like artificial pearls are also very popular among people. Improved quality of gemstones in varied sizes and designs seem to attract the attention of the new generation.

Jewelry design is an art that takes years to develop in a person or the jewelry designer. Great jewelry designers like Robert Lee Morris have kept the tradition of artistic jewelry design living until now. Many cultures from different countries have been mixed up and presented by great jewelry designers to influence the mindset of the people who love jewelry. Jewelry designs can be inspired by anything from animal motifs to flowers, from antique to gothic.

The one style known as the ‘bling bling’ jewelry style has been quite popular with a huge chunk of population and was highly advertised by the hip hop culture of the late 70’s and has been brought back to life by the modern hip hop stars. This ‘bling bling’ jewelry is normally custom made to suit the style of the person. With the world's designs more accessible to jewelers, designs have blended in aspects from many different cultures from different parts of the world and even from different periods.
