You become a trusted individual on your field of expertise and build a positive reputation to everyone in the online business world.

I must also mention that all of this effort you put into article writing, and submitting to article directories, does pay off. All of the traffic you will get is laser-targeted, free traffic. You do not pay one cent for this. Now who would argue with that!
